It is rumoured that Netflix is considering gaming seriously.
Video streaming company Netflix is looking for a leading executive to lead their gaming divisions. The video streaming company has reportedly been interviewing several “executives from the game industry about the role.”
Additionally, there are rumors that Netflix may be planning to launch a games subscription package to compete with Apple Arcade. This would mimic Netflix’s content strategy for games.
“Our members value the variety and quality of our content. It’s why we’ve continually expanded our offering… So we’re excited to do more with interactive entertainment,”
Netflix spokesperson to Polygon
There has been a great deal of experimentation with gaming experiences by Netflix, including Black Mirror: Bandersnatch in 2018 and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, which will feature an interactive episode in 2020.
Besides that, a number of its projects are based on video game franchises, such as The Witcher.
