In conjunction with Roland-Garros, BNP Paribas announced they will be organizing the Roland-Garros eSeries by BNP Paribas Grand Finals in 2021 at Roland-Garros. During a workshop on Friday, May 28th, eight players – from Germany, Belgium, Brazil, France, Italy, Spain, and the UK – will prepare for playing in the grand final on Saturday, May 29th.
From mid-April, students from international esport schools and universities will compete in seven qualifying stages on the video game Tennis World Tour 2 on PS4. The online We Are Tennis tournament, which was also open to the general public, was won by Alexandre Lepine, who earned the last available spot in the Grand Final, and will compete at Roland-Garros against seven rising esports talents. Gael Monfils and Roberto Rivenzi conducted the draw for the 2021 Roland Garros eSeries by BNP Paribas on April 27th, live streamed on Gael Monfils’ Twitch channel.
There will be the following quarter-final ties in the Grand Final:
- Alessandro Dapporto v Thiago Morteira
- Max Ward v Augustin Baudinet
- Darío López Rodríguez v Kevin Vanaerschodt
- Manfred Hanusek v Alexandre Lepine
Roland-Garros’ Philippe-Chatrier court will host the Grand Final on Saturday, May 29th. Although both finalists will share the €5,000 prize money, only one will be invited to participate in a physical-training session at HumanFab, a physical-training center for sporting events, and to enter a 1-week intensive program at Team MCES Gaming Center.
By combining education and competition, Roland-Garros eSeries by BNP Paribas provides an ideal stepping stone towards a career in esports. This is all thanks to the support of Team MCES, one of France’s largest esports clubs.
The eight qualifiers for the Grand Final will attend an esport workshop in English on Friday, May 28th. They are given the opportunity to engage with leading industry stakeholders and prepare themselves as best they can for careers in esports. Members of UNESCO’s International Convention against Doping in Sport will attend. As Chairman and founder of Team MCES, Romain Sombret, and as General Manager, Julien Millet, MCES will share its expertise and valuable advice.
Gaming Squad cofounder Sabrin Lalileche will do a presentation on the feminisation, cyber harassment, and online discrimination in gaming, as well as present the role of his gaming and ethical social network within the esport ecosystem. The Roland-Garros podcast host, Barbara Klein, will lead a workshop that will provide them with valuable media-training.
BNP Paribas 2021’s Roland-Garros eSeries by Roland-Garros second show features a number of captivating players. Rather than having the tournament on his Twitch channel, Gabe and Rivenzi will live-stream the event. As well as tennis, music, cinema, and gaming, the final of Roland-Garros eSeries by BNP Paribas 2021 will be discussed.
At 18:00 CET on Saturday, May 29, Roland-Garros, Gael Monfils, and Rivenzi will host the second live event of the Roland-Garros eSeries by BNP Paribas 2021 edition. You can watch them on Twitch here:
